2021 Pathfinder Teen Expedition
Not just a hike…
But an adventure into eternity!
From Cape Augusta to Cape Naturaliste you will get to experience nature at its best. Pristine beaches, tall karri forests, rare wildflowers, rugged cliff faces and dolphins are just some of the things you may experience. Just imagine the closeness of God and friends in such an awesome environment, the relaxation at the end of another day after achieving yet another leg of the track, the smell of your meal cooking (burning?) and the chatter of the days experiences with friends before tumbling into your warm bed and drifting off to sleep…and before you know it, back up again at the crack of dawn to relive it all over again!
You will be challenged spiritually as well as physically. Our guest speaker Pr. Malcolm Eastwick, will be challenging us on how to live from now into eternity. He will challenge us to make the transition from 135 km’s of glory to eternity with Jesus forever!
About the Expedition
The Cape to Cape Walk Track runs for 135 km along the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge between the lighthouses of Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin in the far south west of Western Australia. It features spectacular coastal and forest scenery, a fascinating geology and history, and wonderful wildflowers in spring. The Cape to Cape Track lies almost wholly within the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park and is managed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation & Attractions (DBCA).
The entire Cape to Cape Track makes a superb 5 – 7 day challenge and this year, those completing the Teen Expedition will be privileged in experiencing this challenging but rewarding hike. The hike will be offered firstly to those who need to complete the Teen Expedition for the Green Beret and can complete a ‘B’ hike in Pathfinder Expeditions.
Because of the length and grade of the hike, those attending will need to have a high fitness level. However, if you are keeping active and regularly walking with your pack, you should have no issues completing this hike.
Be Challenged ‘From Here to Eternity’
Our theme for the hike is: ‘From Here to Eternity.’ From day to day as you cover the km’s, you will be challenged by not just the journey between the Capes but the journey from now to Eternity! How can you be sure you are on that road? Will you make it? Just some of the questions to be answered ‘on the track.’
Who can Attend?
Please note, that there will be very limited places for staff and adults wishing to attend this hike. This is a Teen Expedition event and as such, we wish the teens to be as free, engaged and involved as possible, to help them get the most out of it.
Conditions are as follows: There are 28 places available. Places will be offered firstly to Pathfinders that need to complete this hike for their Green Beret. Those planning to attend will be required to have their Club Director sign off saying they are involved in a fitness program.
If places are available, other applications may also be accepted from other Pathfinders and Junior Leaders.
Note: If you would like to attend and are in any of the above categories, please apply and we will advise in plenty of time, whether you will be able to attend or not.
Please note that the staffing of this hike is by invitation only. This has to do with space, transportation, group size limits and age. If you feel a strong need to attend, please contact Uili Mauga at the Conference Office.
The thrust of this expedition is hiking (A lot on sand) however parts of this hiking expedition may include abseiling, river crossings and swimming. Reasonable fitness and experience in these areas is advantageous. The average hiking distance per day is 23 km. Whilst the majority of the hike will be covered with ‘day’ packs, participants may be required to hike 5km stints with a fully laden back as some camp sites cannot be accessed with vehicles. Knowledge of compass and mapping techniques is essential.
