Easter Camp 2019 Press Release

Western Australian Conference of Seventh-day Adventists
Thursday, 18th April, 2019 10:00PM

Hosting public events like Easter Camp 2019 annually comes with risks like what we have experienced tonight. For many years, we have been blessed with good weather that has not required existing emergency policies and procedures to be put into action.

Today, on the 18th of April 2019, at 3:11PM, a severe weather warning that affected the Advent Park campsite was issued by the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, forcing emergency procedures to be put into action for the safety of all campers and attendees of Easter Camp 2019.

At approximately 6:00PM, campers who live in the Perth Metropolitan Region were instructed to leave the grounds to the safety of their homes and campers from the country side who could not get alternative accommodation off-site were instructed to head to our permanent structures for their safety.

Big Tent was taken down in accordance to our structural engineer’s report which requires the tent to be taken down when a severe weather warning where winds exceed 70KMPH is issued.

We know that this has greatly inconvenienced many of us, especially those who have traveled far and all who have been anticipating a weekend of spiritual refreshment and reconnecting with friends from across our great state. Thank you for your prayers which have been lifted up to God and continue to pray for camp to be back to normal tomorrow.

Easter Camp 2019 Program Updates

Severe Weather Warning has forced us to cancel Thursday (18/04/19) night’s meetings. An evacuation was ordered at 6:30pm requiring all campers to either return home if they live in the city or to assemble at the Youth and Teen sheds which have been set up as emergency accommodation.

We pray that the storm will not affect the rest of camp which is planned to continue, pending an announcement that is expected Friday, tomorrow (19/04/19).

Updates will be released here and also on Facebook, as well as pushed via Convene.

Changes to Big Camp Registration

For the first time, prospective attendees at 2019 Big Camp (both campers and day visitors) will have the opportunity to apply to attend Camp online. The online registration platform will go live on 25 January 2019.

We encourage attendees to utilise the online platform where able, and encourage their friends (whether church members or not) to do likewise. Parents will also have the opportunity to select and pay for children’s activities via the online registration platform.

Those who apply online will experience a faster, more efficient registration process when they arrive at Advent Park.

Members without internet access or those who do not feel confident using the internet are encouraged to seek the assistance of a friend or family member to complete their online application. Those who are unable to register online should contact the WA Conference on (08)9398 7222 from 25 January onwards to request a hard copy Big Camp application form be posted to them.
