A legacy of service: honouring John and Andrea Horvath’s dedication and impact

John and Andrea Horvath and their son Zac joined our Conference back at the beginning of 2005. John and Andrea have worked together as a team in our Conference and have made a huge difference. Next year ‘Engage’ is the pillar of our strategic plan and in the twenty years that the Horvath’s have worked in our conference they have been fully Engaged.

John retired at the end of 2024, and we want to thank him for the impact he has had on communities and in establishing new church groups. Andrea has always been fully involved in John’s work in her quiet and dignified way.

John has worked tirelessly in the refugee community and given physical support and spiritual direction. Helping people practically has always been a strength of this couple. This includes helping find homes, furniture and work. Also teaching people to drive and connecting people with services and helping with food. The first church plant they established was at Koondoola and this was a multicultural church plant. Out of this group we have had a number of groups formed and they have changed over the years. Those groups still operating apart from the Koondoola church plant are the following – Perth All Nations – Sudanese which meets in Ellenbrook, Burundi Church Plant which meets in Cannington, Perth Karen which meets in Belmont, Southern Karen which meets in Gosnells and Forrestfield which meets in Forrestfield.

John and Andrea have been involved in the health work of our Conference and give simple but good advice in practical health that makes a difference. John has a vigor that keeps him going with endless energy and enthusiasm for sharing the Hope of Jesus Christ. Their small farm in the hills has become a retreat for many people with struggles and a great place for churches to enjoy a bonfire.

While John has officially retired, he is going to continue to look after two groups in retirement – the Forrestfield Group and the Southern Karen Group who will become an official church in 2025. Thank you, John and Andrea, for your selfless service in the cause of Jesus Christ.
