Growing together in Merredin

God is blessing our regional community with a growing number of young people who are passionate for Jesus. In the last six months we’ve seen our young people continue to develop, grow, and shine through church life and within their community.

Children taking the reins

A ‘Kid’s Take-Over’ held on 15 October 2023 had the grown-ups sitting back while our kids and youth ran the entire program. Three heartfelt sermonettes were given by Calvin Hardy (11), Maddie Major (9) and Joshua Van Der Merwe (11).

Digging deeper

Our Juniors and Teens, along with their parents, enjoyed a ‘Digging Deeper Dinner’ on 11th November. This event was designed to encourage a deeper connection with Jesus. Participants shared a meal, dug for buried treasure (uncovering and reading bible gems with their families) and had a special time of prayer. Feedback was collected on the church and whether individuals would like more Bible studies.

Decisions for Jesus

In December 2022, the baptism of two of our teens, Nathaniel Shelton and Spencer Saunders (both 13), turned into a double-blessing! Pr Uili Mauga made an alter call which saw an overwhelming number of our kids stand up to call Jesus their best friend and to express their desire to learn more about Him. To honour these children, a special Child Commitment Ceremony was held on 29 April 2023 where thirteen of our younger children were presented with a special certificate and prayed over. Each were connected with a chosen Faith Friend whom they personally requested to assist them with their walk with Christ.

In the community

At the Australia Day Community Awards, Jaden Willis (18) was awarded Merredin’s Young Citizen of the Year. He was recognised for his leadership role at school; his volunteer efforts for Disabled Surfers Association South West and The Blue Tree Project; for raising money for Guide Dogs WA and being a councillor for the Adventist Church’s junior summer camp.

We will remember them

On ANZAC Day, thirty Adventurers, Pathfinders and leaders, proudly marched in this year’s ANZAC parades, remembering the men and women who have served, fought and died for our country; each laying a handmade wreath at the Merredin Cenotaph.
