South West Youth Rally @ Camp Mornington

The maps on my phone tell me that the fastest route to Camp Mornington from the Conference office is:

151km’s - 1hr 45mins.

150km’s - 2hrs 1min.

178km’s - 1hr 55mins.

Which way would you go?

Pr. Travis Townend was the preacher for the South West Youth Rally on the 27th April. He spoke about Habits. Humans tend to find one way of doing things; whether its brushing your teeth, which food to buy, which roads to drive on, how we catch up with our friends, etc. Even how we connect with God.

Pr Travis challenged everyone to consider the words “Our Father…” Spending some time thinking about God as our Father and what that means in our lives was enjoyed by all.

The South West Youth Rally saw over 100 young people take the drive down south. After theworship service and time spent catching up with each other, the crowd migrated down to the oval for the third annual Footy match under lights. Country vs City!!! The City team started with a large number of people in the younger age bracket this year. So much energy was on the field. Country had some more experienced ‘clear heads’ on their side and they held their own well. There was a lot of banter coming from the commentary team of Mike Warchol & Calvin Shotter. Also a lot of cheering coming from the sidelines - and some country voices could be heard loudly from the silo where the drinks and chips were on offer. The final siren saw the ‘City’ take away the win this year. The ‘Country’ lads have vowed to recruit a bit better next year and claim the title back again.

Burmese food abounded for everyone to eat after the game. The noodles were a culinary delight for all (I overheard one youth say to their friends, “this is my third helping, these noodles are out of this world”). A huge thank you to the Johns family for providing such a blessing!

Nobody seemed to want to go to bed that night. There was a lot of catching up and spending time with each other - what could be better? The pancakes for breakfast kept everyone busy before we all packed up and headed for home.

We want to say a MASSIVE thank you to Josh Calais for pulling all of the elements of the weekend together. Also a big shout out to Jaclyn and Calvin Shotter and the Mornington crew for a wonderful weekend for our young people. If you haven’t made the journey to Camp Mornington - what are you waiting for? Check it out and take some friends - you’ll have such a great time.
