The theme of this year’s event was ‘Messages of Hope’. A record total of 19 arrangements were on display, with each one depicting an encouraging message of hope for the viewer to reflect on. Visitors can show their appreciation for Bible in Bloom by donating to a charity. This year’s beneficiary was the ‘Light of Hope’ School in Cambodia.

A very good friend of mine knew about my competition writing and sent me a link for the Best Australian Yarn competition, run through the West Australian newspaper. At first I thought it wasn’t for me. It is such a widely published competition that the chances of getting through are slim. So I prayed about it, as I do with all my stories, and an idea began formulating. That idea became the story ‘From the Outside.’ It is a short story from the point of view of a child, who is neurodiverse, and his experience of his first day at a new school.

In early October, I travelled to Derby to work with the local pastor Gavin Dagg. We conducted a short evangelistic series for the people in the community. The local church hired a 25 seater bus. Gavin’s wife Bev drove the bus out to the local community of Mowanjum, and around town, to pick up families for a meal and the program.

The WA Conference executive committee approved the purchase of the old licensing centre when a proposal was presented to the committee. It outlined the building’s potential as an Aboriginal “Centre of Influence” in Midland and the surrounding areas. It is planned that the “Centre” will provide much needed services to the local community.

Over 500 people came along to our Adventurer Camporee in October and it was fantastic. There was 211 kids between the ages of 4-9yrs old, and they came with their parents and other family members. There was a lot of energy from the kids, and a lot of creativity from the leaders.

Eileen Fehlberg seemed to be losing her battle with breast cancer in the middle of 2021. She had an open cancerous wound on her breast which was getting more difficult to care for. She was needing to use a walking stick, a wheelchair and stronger pain medication. It looked like she wouldn’t make it to the end of the year.

Bickley Seventh-day Adventist Church held it’s ninth annual Kid’s Club during the second week of the October school holidays. Over 70 children joined us at the ‘Jerusalem Marketplace’ throughout the week. We explored the experience of Jesus and His followers in the week of His trial, death and resurrection. We were blessed to have a number of children attend from the local community who have not had any prior connection to our church.
